  Federico Caneva

Described as a brilliant artist with a rich palette of sound, solid technique and the ability to create a deep connection with any audience, Federico Caneva is an Italian-Swiss pianist born in 1998. After showing a passionate and early interest in music, he officially began studying piano at the age of six.

Driven by an innate need for sharing, Federico combines his passion for teaching with a continuous artistic exploration and the creation of original, interdisciplinary projects. He has also been awarded in various national and international piano competitions, including the first prizes at the Città di Alessandria, Maria Labia Prize, Fondazione Milano, in addition to being a finalist of the International “E. Tchaikovsky” Prize 2023, semifinalist at Murten Klassik 2024, and second prizes at the Ischia International Piano Competition, Oltregiogo International Piano Competition, Città di Gallarate, Villa Oliva, and Giorgio and Aurora Giovannini competition.

He regularly performs in public as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles throughout Italy and Switzerland, in addition to having played in various European countries such as Poland, Croatia, and France.

Federico earned his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees at the Haute École de Musique of Geneva, years marked by the inspired and visionary artistic guidance of Cédric Pescia.

Since 2015, he has been studying with his teacher and mentor Roberto Plano, one of the most refined pianist in the world, an essential figure in the artistic growth of the young pianist. The collaboration between the two is currently still ongoing at the Conservatory of Lugano, where Federico is pursuing a second Master degree in Music Pedagogy.

At the same time, in 2020, he embarked on an intensive musical path under the careful and meticulous guidance of Pasquale Iannone, who has made a profound impact on the technical mastery of the instrument and the interpretative-musical thought, as well as providing constant pedagogical insights.

To complement his training, he has had the opportunity to work with internationally renowned artists, including Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Janina Fialkowska, Ricardo Castro, Zlata Chochieva, Filippo Gamba, Fabrizio Chiovetta, Louis Schwizgebel, Diana Ketler, Irene Veneziano, Paolo Bordoni, Carlo Guaitoli and Karol Radziwonowicz.
